Rip Your Environment Apart
Augmented reality! That’s what we’re dealing with here. This right here is the “Scout – Portable Pedestrian Navigation Device” and it’s intended to be used by people traveling about, connecting then with local knowledge, wisdom, and GPS information to guide them. It’s a digital compass is what it is. It encourages “uninhibited exploration, discovery, documentation, and sharing.”
Can you imagine the games you could play with this lovely little thing?
The Scout has a screen, a camera, and a scroll wheel click button. As you know from using computer mice for years and years now, that’s all you need! With this device you could start a whole social-media revolution, bringing the people back to the streets!
Lemme know what you think about that.
Another interesting thing is the information Matt Marrocco has given us! In the submission we’ve got here of this project, we get all of the programs used to create it: Photoshop, Illustrator, Rhino, and Hypershot. That’s awesome.
Do you agree with giving up your tools along with the design?
Very big questions in this very simple design.
Designer: Matt Marrocco

Tiny, Magical Worlds Inside Toilet Paper Rolls

We rarely give much thought to the humble toilet paper rolland why should we? Its just a piece of cardboard, destined for the recycling bin, a carrier for a necessary but unremarkable household supply. But perhaps its the very banality of this material that gives Anastassia Elias tiny, delicate sculptures such surprising vitality.

Elias, primarily a painter and illustrator, carves tiny scenes out of the inside of each brown paper roll, leaving the outside intact. The layering of each individual element gives each scene texture and depth that is revealed by the light that shines through, highlighting some figures and leaving others in shadow.

The artist photographs the tubes being slowly turned toward the camera at an angle, so that just one tiny part of the sculpture is revealed at a time. The subjects are engaged in everyday activities like relaxing at home, listening to a lecture or passing through a street marketperhaps a deliberate reference to the domestic nature of the artists chosen medium.

DS-2410 Seating by Peter Maly and Birgit Hoffmann
German designer Peter Maly and his business partner Birgit Hoffmann have designed the DS-2410 seating family for the Swiss manufacturer de Sede.
From de Sede:
The commodious seat cushioning is partitioned by fine diagonal seams, while the diagonal motif is echoed in the sweeping armrests in the form of oblique stitching and pleats. The seating elements, sofas and stools perch on deeply recessed bases, while the large armchairs can also swivel.

Biscuit Stool by Outofstock Design
The Outofstock design collective have created the Biscuit Stool.
From the designers:
Crafted in solid oak with a hint of farmhouse charm, Biscuit is a trusty companion for breakfast or afternoon tea in a sunlit kitchen. The gently curved edge of the seat is easy on the thighs and pleasant to touch. Robust legs in turned wood are strengthened with criss-crossed dowels, completing a stool which uses no screws in its construction. Inspired by traditional wooden stools observed at a fish market in Singapore, Biscuit is designed to be a durable and versatile dining stool suitable for both the home and contract market.

The MOON floorlamp:
A simple construction made of three wooden sticks and a brass ring suspending a globe light in its airy place. Elegance on three legs.

The SHEEP stools:
The stools in the sheep series create a symbiosis of cold and warm, rigid and soft materials. Concrete steel is upcycled through handmade felt to create vanguard-seating furniture.

Have a Cup of Cheer: 5 Classic Holiday Drink Recipes
[ WebEcoist ]

Christmas is upon us once again, and that means lots of food, a few presents, and, usually, a few soul-warming drinks. Whether you’re planning to host a big Christmas party or are looking forward to spending a quiet holiday at home, these holiday drink recipes will keep you warm and add a cup of cheer to your celebrations.
Eggnog

This classic holiday drink will have you and your guests going back for more time after time. Most eggnog is full of saturated fat and sugar, and if it’s made with raw eggs it can be dangerous. Make it with organic, rBGH-free milk and pasteurized egg substitute for a much safer, healthier version. If you’re looking to cut down on calories, try this healthier version that uses vanilla frozen yogurt instead of heavy cream to make the drink nice and creamy. Or make this delicious vegan “egg” nog to eliminate the dairy and eggs altogether. Keep it alcohol-free for the kids, but add a bit of organic rum for the adults.
Mulled Cider

Is there anything more comforting on a cold winter day than hot mulled cider? This drink is well-known in New England, but is served all around the world. It’s simple to prepare and makes your house smell fantastic – and having a glass or three will make it much easier to maintain your holiday cheer. If you prefer, buy pre-mixed mulling spices (available around the holidays in most grocery stores) instead of assembling the individual spices yourself. This recipe will yield 8 cups of cider.
Ingredients
1/2 gallon of fresh, unfiltered organic apple cider
1 washed organic orange
15 cloves
4 3-inch sticks of cinnamon
15 allspice berries
1 teaspoon of nutmeg
7 pods of cardamon
1/4 cup brown sugar
Eiffel Stool by Shigeki Fujishiro
Japanese designer Shigeki Fujishiro has created the Eiffel Stool.
From the designer:
A “three-legged stool” is considered most suitable while at work. The reason being the worker can freely move their own legs while sitting. With the concept of “form by means of tools = shape from function”, this stool is designed in a minimal manner so the structure itself becomes form. Material is made from a special paper developed in Europe, that consist of pure pulp and recycled paper. This material is prominent by means of durability, flexibility, weight, pliability, and insulation. Very earth-friendly material as excess during process can be recycled.
Trussing of the legs has intensified the strength to a point where the “paper” is no longer felt. “eiffel” is of course named after the towering steel-structured masterpiece.
