Every Skyscraper Capped with Grass
Design group Kalomix, from Hong Kong, have come up with a rather green concept, if you will. It’s grass. It’s so green, it’s got it in the name: “Green Puzzle.” The Green Puzzle is currently being displayed at Ecopelago in Hong Kong (stop by if you’re into that sort of thing.) And it’s just a feel-good between-the-toes kind of concept. Solar panels that are made to appear and feel like grass, in the shape of grass, to be planted on the ground in the dirt surrounded by grass. It’s camouflage solar energy!
The Green Puzzle comes in panels, rather small but you can combine them in a sort of daisy-chain to intercept maximum sunlight. Made to be kind to the feet, with only a portion of the ground covered so that real grass can grow through!
Made to appear rather built-in, I’d say.
Designer: Kalomix

DC Life Admiral Spring 2010

DC collectors need to get their hands on this metallic high-top with a leather/nubuck upper and a shearling lining, even if they also happen to like the Spring 2010 black and white DC versions. Certainly notable for the shine alone, these well-finished shoes have monochromatic stitching and plenty of seaming to keep you interested. It’s a new era of street x space age. Absolutely Basic Chair
Sometimes design gets so breathtakingly simple, it really makes no sense to mention it at all, as it’s seamlessly integrated into the everyday lives of us everyday people. Sometimes, however, items are so simple beyond the call of duty, further than they’d ever reasonably have to go, they’ve just gotta have a few words published about them. Enter “Chair?” by designer M Scherpenisse.
It’s made of some unbendable material, attaches to the ceiling with another extra dose of magic, and has no frills! No frills at all I say! But see here: Maarten Scherpenisse created this chair as a question, rather than an answer. He asks the design community the following, as a student of design:
Is there any more basic chair than this?

Wall-E Bento Art is Too Cute To Eat

We already know how cute Wall-E can be with those puppy-like eyes, and this Bento art is just as adorable, but the problem is that no one can really get themselves to take a bite out of Wall-E.

Created by the amazing AnnaTheRed, this is a beautiful creation of Wall-E that would get you hungry for more like the Tetris Bento Lunchbox did. She goes over what makes up each item and shape:
Wall-E:
rice wrapped with egg sheet
seaweed on cheese and carrot
seaweed on rice mixed with black sesame seed and salt
konnyaku (yam cake) and seaweed

EVE:
quail egg
kamaboko dyed with purple cabbage juice on seaweed

Roll.Charge.Light.Protect Wheelchair by Mingoo Kim
Wheelchairs would be dangerous for open ride especially when users go out during dark night. “Roll Charge Light Protect” Project demonstrates a concept wheelchair that has lights for other people to notice the wheelchair, offering a remarkable safety system. This lights get power from movements of the wheels, thus, it is a good way to save energy. There are a set of LEDs under the wheel cover that glows brightly during the night. A magnet is helping generating electricity by rotating and the generated electricity is conveyed by the Coil to the LEDs. The wheel and the magnet are bridged with a Gear, protected by a Small Cover. The LCD panel shows readings about remaining amount of electricity and how long the user will be able to use it.

Just a Fraction of a Table
I love clever little thangs. This is definitely a clever little thang if I do say so myself. From the fabulous mind of industrial designer Josh Tuminella comes this table by the name of “Square Root.” I bet you can tell why. It’s made out of less than 10 individual pieces and one of them is “biscuits.” Be there!
The pieces are as follows: walnut, aluminum, biscuits, glue, and 4 screws. It’s designed to be repaired easily in the case of a wild house cat or a serial murderer rampaging through your house and it “absorbs dings and nicks to display the personality and identity of the user.”
I think that last sentence is code for: gets scratches like every other table, but that’s definitely o.k. And it is! Beaten up tables, man, people pay a lot of money for that look!
