Cleaning your home or vacuuming it need not be a problem or a major task any longer, especially with the arrival of the robotic vacuum cleaner from Neato Robotics. This robotic vacuum cleaner uses laser technology to completely study your home and avoid obstacles or impediments in its way, during cleaning sessions.

This is possible because of its 360 degree viewing ability, which helps it to map your room, including walls, furniture and other aspects that are present in your room before beginning to clean it. The systematic pattern of its cleaning ensures complete cleaning of your room, without leaving a single corner or place. This ensures that you no longer have to haul those large vacuum cleaners around the house and still feel dissatisfied at the cleaning ability. These Neato robotics vacuum cleaners sense the entire situation and act accordingly; thereby allowing you more free time to attend to other things, while still maintaining a clean and sparkling home.

Fanning the Future: Kids Bring Wind Farm to Utah Town

Most of us know that there are ways to make the world a greener place, but we get frustrated when we don’t see our actions making an immediate difference. A group of high school kids in rural Milford, Utah, are seeing the benefits of their efforts, and in a big way. The kids and their teacher Andy Swapp are responsible for bringing a 200 megawatt wind farm to their town – that’s enough energy to power 44,000 Southern California homes. The resulting increase in tax revenue has revitalized the town’s economy, and the whole project has given the town’s residents an increased sense of pride in their community.

Milford High School teacher Andy Swapp’s curiosity was piqued one day when he was plowing a field on his farm. The wind blew so hard that the soil he’d plowed up effectively sandblasted the side of his barn. Seeing the wind’s power made him wonder just how hard it was blowing, which led to him obtaining an anemometer to measure its strength. The teacher couldn’t let this unique learning experience go to waste, so he invited his students to his farm to help him put up the tower. Within weeks, energy companies showed an interest in the project and Swapp’s data.

That little class project eventually turned into a 200MW wind farm backed by First Wind. Already, the town of Milford is reporting increased revenues in service and retail segments of their economy. A new hospital is being built with the tax funds generated by the farm. And maybe the best part of this project is the reaction from the students and other Milford residents. They have a renewed sense of pride in their hometown and the knowledge that they can do great things that will impact countless other people. Their wind farm isn’t just an environmental achievement or a community service project – it’s an inspiration to everyone who ever thought that they couldn’t make a difference. What started out as a fun field trip has turned into a project that stabilized a town’s economy, renewed the residents’ sense of community, and moved the entire country one step closer to clean power.

The first phase of the Milford Wind Corridor Project became operational in October 2009. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the 97 towers and wind turbines cover more than 40 square miles and connect to an 88-mile-long transmission line providing power to Southern California. The entire project cost over $400 million and invested about $84.5 million in Utah businesses and laborers. The project created 240 related jobs in construction and operation. There’s more information about the Milford project and other First Wind projects at their website.

SousVide Supreme First Water Oven for the Home

There is a new development in kitchen appliances called a “water oven”.This product is the SousVide Supreme Water Oven.I often find that there are new gimmicks in the kitchen all the time, but this one may prove different. The product is designed to cook fish, meat or poultry at a very slow rate which can even extend over a few days. The meat is vacuum sealed along with spices and extras and placed in the water oven. The fact that the meat is sealed allows for all the juice to stay inside as opposed to other cooking methods which often dry out meat.If you have one of these, leave a comment so we can share your experience.Price: $449.95.See the product: here.

If Those Little Lights Aren’t Cutting It

So you’re hearing impaired. And the telephone rings. But you aren’t looking at the phone, so you can’t see that little light flashing on it.* Or you’re looking for a new solution for waking up in the morning. Or the doorbell rings. What ever do you do? You come over here and check this right out, right now! It’s a wristband that informs about all of that at once, through sensations in the skin!

*This is assuming you’ve got a land-line of course. Not all in the world have a mobile cell phone yet!

Skin receptors are abundant on your wrist. That’s why the teacher SMACKS you on the wrist when you’re in trouble! (Or, at least, my auntie told me they used to do that in the school they went to.) So, instead of that, this device, the “Aria,” makes use of those skin receptors with patterns of touch in this fabulous band. Six audible events in the home communicate to the user of the band through different pressing patterns.

Tactile!

Gun on Wheels

Let me just stop you right there. This thing is called the “Robotic Weapon”, but don’t be fooled! All this is really is a teleoperated MIl-Sim non-lethal paintball gun mounted on a 4-wheel-drive E-Maxx RC vehicle. Does that sound like anything you know? I remember a television show about these sorts of things I think. This lovely war machine’s alternate names are: “Kill Bot,” “Mega Hurtz,” “The Wireless Weapon,” and “SWAT BOT.”

It’s an all-aluminum lipo powered unmanned ground machine designed specifically for law enforcement. But I’ll tell ye what, I would LOVE to mount a spray can on top of there, or fill the paintball ammo with a rainbow assortment.

Capable of speeds around 50mph, controlled by remote with barrel cam vision. Night vision, fully controlled by one person per car.

Scary!
