Lincoln Chairs for 2010

Do you know what Lincoln Logs are? They are wooden toys shaped like logs (aka fallen trees) with notches in them so they can be stacked in any number of ways to create log structures. Log cabins is what they had in mind, the same kind US President Abraham Lincoln lived in as a child. This tradition of selling the parts and allowing the customer create the product is continued here, now, today, in a table system dubbed “Molecule.”

Molecule comes in several different sizes and shapes and colors, all based on two main shapes. As the shapes are brought together, they create molecule-like amalgamations, making for unique and easily re-configurable table groups with chairs. All wood veneer with an upholstered pad top.

Painted Alive: Boldly Brilliant Body Paintings

Craig Tracy is dedicated to creating surreal moments in time. Without the use of digital manipulation or photographic tricks, he creates dazzling body painting compositions that have elevated this particular type of artistic expression into the realm of fine art. He recently opened a gallery in New Orleans: the first gallery in the world dedicated to fine art body painting images.

Although he’s been an artist his whole life, it took Craig Tracy a number of years to truly find his passion. His first professional art job was airbrushing t-shirts in a shopping mall. This experience gave him the foundation that would later lead him to discover that he could – and should – paint on unusual surfaces.

After college, Tracy went on to become an illustrator. Like many artists, he found the work dreary and depressing. With no artistic freedom and no way to imbue the projects with his own style, he felt trapped. After retiring from illustration and declaring his freedom from stuffy commercial work, he discovered that body painting was the only type of art that truly made sense for him. Starting out painting faces, he progressed to painting bodies and eventually began showing and selling prints of his body paintings in his own gallery.

Since then, Craig Tracy’s work has developed into a full-time passion. His body paintings show the strength and aching fragility of human bodies, juxtaposed perfectly with the fluidity and transience of the pigments in which they are covered. In some paintings, the model blends with the background, creating a stunning illusion. In others, the painted model is the focus of the piece. The above piece (bottom right), named “Butterfly” as a reference to the subtle butterfly disguised as a nose, features a woman as the leopard’s nose bridge. Her bottom forms the big cat’s top lips. The artist took 24 hours to paint the model and backdrop, pausing only for a one-hour nap.

Unlike Emma Hack, an artist who uses body paint to melt models into the background of her paintings, Tracy seems to celebrate the human form present in his work. Rather than hiding the model, he allows the curves and shadows of her body to interact with the entire piece, adding a depth, texture and powerful mystery to the paintings.

In doing this, he travels to a rather artistically dangerous zone. Just how much should the model’s form be allowed to influence the shape and direction of each piece? At what point does the body cross the line between canvas and subject? Each of Tracy’s paintings seem to play with these limits, exploring the human form as both the focus of the painting and an incidental part of it. Between those two extremes are many shades of grey, each of which is explored lovingly by the brush of the artist.

Towering Vertical Wooden Tennis Center For Sweden

The building you see above may look like a gigantic piece of shredded wheat, but it’s actually a (very) non-traditionaltennis complex for Vaxjo, Sweden!David Tajchman, a Paris-based firm, designed the aptly named Tennicalator to be made out of locally sourced wood as part of an international design competition, but the woven facade isn’t the only cool thing about it. Since the area and neighboring buildings have a strong connection with the surrounding nature, David Tajchman decided to take the Tenniscalator vertical instead of horizontal, leaving the remaining land for beautiful gardens and manicured grounds.

Predator Motorcycle is the Scary Beast on the Road

I have seen many conventional bikes, but the Predator Motorcycle has really freaked me out, and it probably would do the same for you as well. Just imagine seeing the crazy Predator face staring at you in your rear view mirror on the highway – it would easily scare anyone that was just minding their own business.

The creator, Pitstop Motors of New Jersey, brings up this king of all custom made bikes with the awesome theme of the Predator Motorcycle. This bike is just spectacular, for it certainly looks very realistic for its design which is fully based on the famous antagonist Predator from the movie series. Moreover, it is not just for show but is a fully functional 2007 Suzuki Hayabusa with a monstrous engine and runs like anything on road but with increased intensity and presence as can easily be seen with the variety of images from Miggiddymatt, iO9, SSBMag and theOOrig.

The unbelievable Predator Motorcycle is extremely detailed and took the theme at hand very seriously, displaying the Predator face with great details, different skulls at various parts of the bike including one with its spine still connected and an amazing paint job to add to the setting. Overall, it is an outstanding custom bike job that tops many displays seen before.

Image

I think this bike would be the dream machine for all the bikers who ride for speed, and with this kind of Predator theme, this bike is going to rip the road apart. But bikers would have to beware with such a beast in their grip, for the Police would simply look for reason to pull you over when they see such an Alien looking machine on the road. Not to mention scaring and shocking all bystanders.

Still, any Motorcycle rider would love to take this Predator out for a test drive, but let’s just hope they come back safe and not killed off by the monster.

The CityCenter mega-resort opened last month to fanfare, press, and a fireworks display fitting of a 67-acre 8.7 billion dollar gamble sitting on the Las Vegas Strip. The project surpassed its original sustainability goal of LEED Silver to score an impressive six LEED Gold Certifications (with another one on its way), and it was the recipient of the US Forest Stewardship Council’s best commercial project of 2009.However Las Vegas is a desert, and in this resource-constrained site we couldnt help but pull back a bit of the star-crossed blinds and ask how deep does the green really go?

Trash Knows Best

Called the Trash Know, this dustbin is as elegant as practical. It features a unique way for incorporating the disposable liners into its form. Right at the bottom of the bin is this roll-dispenser holding the liners. You pull out one to line the bin with. After the trash has filled up, you simply tie a knot on the top and tear away the liner and pull up the next one. Think about a toilet roll, thats the principle used here too! I simply love the demo video for it!
